Last Visit - PRESERVING THE "REMAINS OF THE DAY"

last visit photoThe partnership met for the last time with the Brookfield Elementary fifth and sixth graders, to clean and catalogue the archaeological finds. Preservation methods were discussed along with looking at our objects to identify and determine material type, usage, and approximate age chronologies.

At our last meeting the fifth and sixth graders, local historians, and community members exhibited a great deal of collective pride, as well as, a shared sense of "owning their history". Learning how to look at our history, finding what remains, and listening to what it had to tell us— met the outcomes we had set out to tackle.

What will remain at the end of the day to tell us who came before, and what will come after? Our children, and the history they have un-covered. The stories they will tell, the activities they will remember and share, and in that remembered re-telling they will preserve and ultimately —share the past.
